LOOK FOR ME (2016, hand processed 16mm to digital, black and white, dual projection and performance piece)
LOOK FOR ME was commissioned by Mono No Aware with The Center for Performance Research and Dance Films Association for MONO NO AWARE X. The piece is a portrait of a figure in conversation with her memory. The performer on stage is multiplied through the projected images of herself in distant landscapes. This work is inspired by Simone de Beauvoir’s notion of ambiguity, in which a person is painted as being both subject and object. In LOOK FOR ME, the figure is extracted from herself as other than herself. The audience is invited to witness the performer as if she is seeing herself through the lens of her imagination.
This piece premiered as part of the cinema arts festival, Mono No Aware X at the Center for Performance Research in November 2016. It was also performed at Cucalorus Film Festival in Wilmington, North Carolina and at The MATCH in Houston, TX.
