The World of Wrestling (2015, durational performance installation)

Through an ongoing cycle of construction by the man performer followed by deconstruction by the woman performer, this piece makes futile antiquated and polarized expectations of masculinity and femininity by utilizing a mound of dirt.

The first iteration was presented at Co-Lab Projects in Austin, TX as part of their SUMMERSCOOL program. The piece was revised in collaboration with Mario Galeano and presented at the opening of the She/Folk group exhibition at IDIO Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. On closing night, Kerr performed ‘a memory’ of the work in the absence of her partner and with the remains of her sculpture, echoing fragments of personal experience. The World of Wrestling was also performed at Metrotech Commons as part of the 2016 BEAT Festival.
