while you were away (2016, digital video and performance piece)

In ‘while you were away’,  the video immerses the performers as an uncanny mirror of the collapsing bodies, at times reflecting those on stage and at times revealing what they are not and what they could be. The performers in the present moment are virtually othered by the reflections in the video, which show what could be past, possible, and not present. These images of absence expose distance between the performers, making visible poetics of loneliness.

This work made its premiere at CAVE home of LEIMAY as part of the summer festival, SOAK. This piece was also performed at Triskelion Arts as part of The 2016 BEAT (Brooklyn Emerging Artists in Theater) Festival and at The MATCH Houston.
